MBTA rider fail.

Okay, so we had the cigarette ban from public indoor areas. The smokers moved outside, and everything was good.

Not really.

Every day, there's always one or two bus/subway riders at my stop who stand far away from everyone and chain smoke. It's great that they're standing far away - that lessens my risk of developing cancer from their secondhand smoke. HOWEVER, what they DON'T realize is that the wind blows all of that cigarette smoke back towards the crowd. Consequently, we nonsmokers end up breathing that shit back into our lungs and the efforts of the smokers standing far away from the crowd are for naught.

What's worse is that these smokers ignore the "NO SMOKING" signs posted up EVERYWHERE in the outdoor station areas. Seriously? Are you THAT ignorant? Do you need a cigarette THAT badly to damage everyone else's health around you?

Sadly, there's very little that passengers can do but complain to MBTA officials who rarely enforce the rules anyway. Perhaps Dan Grabauskas can use some of the revenue from increased fares to put up more signs, instead of pay for those employees standing around the fare machines who don't do a good job of explaining how to use them to riders. Or perhaps the MBTA can continue racking up debt by investing in failing projects.

Who knows.
